Volunteer
The Public Health Museum’s Volunteer Program provides a great opportunity for a person to donate their time and expertise to a local non-profit organization. Without the support and time of volunteers, the Public Health Museum would not be able to provide its guided tours or host special events.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please fill out an application. Questions may be emailed to volunteers@publichealthmuseum.org
Museum Tour Guide
For the volunteer who prefers to be out of the sun…The Museum is open each Wednesday and Thursday. We need friendly people to conduct the guided indoor tour of the Museum. As a Museum Tour Guide, your job would be to engage visitors and spark their interest while providing an accurate and appropriate tour. You will have the opportunity to meet people of all types and provide a valuable service to the Public Health Museum. |
Saturday Volunteer
For the volunteer with a lot of heart, but not a lot of time to volunteer… The Museum is open the first Saturday of each month and needs outgoing and friendly people to conduct the guided indoor tour of the Museum. As a Saturday volunteer, your job would be to answer questions, engage visitors and spark their interest while providing an accurate and appropriate tour of our various indoor exhibits. You will have the opportunity to meet people of all types and provide a valuable service to the Public Health Museum. |
Campus Walking Tour Guide
For the volunteer who loves physical activity… The Museum conducts one general campus tour on the first Saturday and the third Wednesday of each month seasonally by appointment. Using archival photos and historical data, you will conduct a 90-minute guided tour of the Tewksbury Hospital campus. Your job would be to engage visitors and spark their interest while providing an accurate and appropriate tour over uneven terrain. You will have the opportunity to meet people of all types and provide a valuable service to the Public Health Museum. |
Book Reviewer
Love to read nonfiction and biographies? Enjoy sharing your opinion through the written word? Do you prefer to volunteer from the comfort of your favorite reading spot? Then writing book reviews for the Public Health Museum might be for you. The book reviews may be published in monthly newsletters, on the Museum’s website, or on Facebook. Volunteers will contribute a short review of a book pertinent to public health. All reviews are subject approval by museum staff. |
Researcher
Interested in learning new information? Are you interested in history, public health, or infectious diseases? Enjoy exploring the stacks of libraries and digging through local archives? Then researching for the Public Health Museum might be for you. The information you uncover might be used in monthly newsletters, on the Museum’s website, or contribute to the enrichment of an exhibit. Volunteers will work with the Volunteer Coordinator to choose the subjects and will be asked to find facts, documents, articles, books, and more on that subject. |
Website Blog
Do you like to write? Are you interested in history, public health, or infectious diseases? Would you prefer to volunteer from the comfort of your living room? Then submitting entries for the Public Health Museum’s blog might be for you. Volunteers will contribute short essays or other writings on subjects relevant to the museum and its collection. You will work with the Volunteer Coordinator to choose subjects and edit your pieces. |
