Campaign Against Tuberculosis

This display contains many items relating to the battle against tuberculosis. In 1900 TB was the primary cause of death in the United States and its cause was just being elucidated. Once it became clear that TB was a contagious bacterial disease, public health control measures were implemented. One item of interest in this case is the proclamation signed in 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt congratulating Tewksbury Hospital for its TB treatment and control efforts.
